Ursula von der Leyen Congratulates Tokayev on the Discovery of a Major Rare Metals Deposit in Kazakhstan

As part of the “Central Asia–European Union” summit, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, according to Akorda, as reported by “Adyrna” national portal.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed prospects for enhancing cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union across various economic sectors, as well as in digitalization and innovation. Both sides positively noted the initiation of the process to reach an agreement on visa facilitation between Kazakhstan and the European Commission.

President Tokayev emphasized that the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA) serves as a solid foundation for the multifaceted cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU. He outlined four priority areas for further deepening collaboration with Europe: Energy, Implementation of major infrastructure and industrial projects, Expansion of transport and logistics networks, Partnership in digital innovation, advanced technologies, and artificial intelligence

Ursula von der Leyen also highlighted the importance of implementing transport and logistics projects, including the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. She congratulated President Tokayev on the discovery of a major deposit of rare metals in Kazakhstan.

Both parties agreed to continue working within the C5+EU framework and exchanged views on key regional and international issues.
