The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, arrived in Paris on a state visit at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, reports the national portal “Adyrna,” citing the website president.uz.
Upon his arrival in France, the Uzbek president was ceremoniously welcomed by official representatives and the command of the Paris military district. Additionally, Uzbek students studying and working in France greeted the Uzbek delegation at their residence.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay to discuss joint projects in the fields of culture and education.
Under Uzbekistan’s initiative, resolutions on access to information and children’s education have been adopted. The city of Bukhara has been included in UNESCO’s “Creative Cities Network,” and a UNESCO Chair has been established at the Silk Road University in Samarkand.
This year, Uzbekistan will host UNESCO’s 43rd General Conference. For the first time in UNESCO’s 80-year history, this important event will be held outside Paris—in Samarkand.
Several cultural heritage sites have been added to UNESCO’s special list, including the Turan deserts, the Zarafshan-Karakum corridor, the art of silk production, ceramics, the tradition of playing the rubab, the iftar ceremony, and the “Bukhara Emir’s Office Archive.”
During the meeting, the parties reached an agreement to expand practical cooperation and develop cultural and educational projects.
