Grand Mufti Nauryzbai Qazhy Taganuly has called for the use of religious terms in Kazakh. He made this statement during a press conference held in the capital, according to the national portal “Adyrna.”
“I urge young people to use religious terms in Kazakh. Unfortunately, it is disheartening to hear some of the younger generation refer to auyzashar as iftar and sáresı as suhur. For centuries, our ancestors, who followed the path of Islam, have used the words auyzashar and sáresı. As descendants who uphold our ancestors’ traditions, we should avoid adopting religious terms from other languages whenever possible, use the beautiful words passed down by our forebears, respect our mother tongue, and strive to speak in Kazakh,” said Nauryzbai Qazhy Taganuly.
It is worth noting that, according to a unified fatwa issued by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan, the holy month of Ramadan will begin on March 1. The Night of Qadr will fall on the night of March 26 to 27, and March 30 will mark the celebration of Eid al-Fitr (Orazai Ait).
During a plenary meeting of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan, chaired by the Grand Mufti, the fitr (charitable) donation was set at 655 tenge nationwide, based on the average price of two kilograms of flour.
