The head coach of the Kazakhstan national team, Stanislav Cherchesov, shared his thoughts on the joke he made to a Kazakh journalist during a press conference in an interview with the ‘SЭ’ publication, according to the national portal ‘Adyrna.’

Cherchesov commented for the first time on his controversial joke regarding the Kazakh language.

‘I understand what I am saying whenever I speak in public. If they do not understand my joke, it means I made a mistake,’ said Cherchesov.

It is worth noting that during the press conference following the match against Slovenia in the Nations League, a journalist asked Stanislav Cherchesov a question in Kazakh. However, the head coach jokingly asked, ‘What language are you speaking—French?’ After this, members of the country’s parliament addressed the situation, stating that those coming to work in the Republic of Kazakhstan should respect the Kazakh language. As a result, the coach was fined.

Under Cherchesov’s leadership, the national team has played four matches. One of them ended in a draw, while the other three resulted in losses.
