Kazakhstan’s First President Nursultan Nazarbayev voted in the referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, reports “Adyrna” national portal.

The former head of state cast his vote at polling station 256, located in the Astana Opera theater. From a distance, journalists asked, “Are you staying in Kazakhstan?” and “What is your opinion on the nuclear power plant?”

He simply responded, “Be happy! Be successful!” to the journalists. No microphone was provided for the ex-president in the hall.

Journalists’ attempts to ask questions went unanswered. The press secretary accompanying the former president, Aidos Ukibai, seemed to take on the role of the ex-president’s assistant in front of the media.

After voting, Nazarbayev quickly turned and left, surrounded by his bodyguards.
