An ex-policeman was detained in Almaty, the national portal "Adyrna" reported.
Today, the former deputy of the city police department, Berik Abilbekov, was arrested on charges of torturing citizens during the January incident.
"It is known that in January 2022, the General Prosecutor's Office is investigating a criminal case on the torture of citizens in a special reception center located in the village of Koshmambet, Karasai District, Almaty Region. As part of the criminal case under investigation, on May 28, 2024, according to Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Almaty, the former Deputy Chief of the Police Department of Almaty B. Abilbekov was arrested," the Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.
At the same time, the competent authority stated that on the basis of Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code, other detailed information on the case is not subject to disclosure.
