"There was a lack of competition in the election." Ursula Gachek, the head of the election monitoring mission of the OSCE Bureau of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, stated this during a press conference held by OSCE observers, "Adyrna" national portal writes with reference to baq.kz.

According to him, the mission started its work a month before the elections.

We have been working since the middle of October. There were about 300 observers on the election day. They are located in the entire territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Oversaw the opening of polling stations. In general, I want to say that elections are not limited to one day's work. That is, the work of our mission does not consist only of checking for one day. Kazakhstan's extraordinary presidential election lacked competition. It has been shown that it is necessary to bring electoral regulations into line with international standards and OSCE obligations, - noted the head of the monitoring mission.

At the same time, he emphasized that the current president was elected as a joint candidate of the parliamentary parties.

The current president ran as a joint candidate of the parliamentary parties and, to be honest, he was not really challenged during the campaign. According to observers, the ability of citizens to fully participate remains severely limited. Among them, due to the limitations of basic freedoms, the election authorities provided information to the voters through the media. However, the lack of media coverage of the election campaign and lack of analytical data limited voters' ability to make an informed choice, Ursula Gacek said.
