Citizens affected by the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site may retire early. If there is a demand from the public, appropriate changes will be made to the landfill law adopted in 1992. The Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the People, Tamara Duisenova, stated this at a meeting with members of non-governmental organizations held in Semipalatinsk.
According to him, representatives of the Ministries of Health and Ecology are currently conducting research on the health of residents of the region affected by the nuclear test. Based on that, appropriate changes can be made to the law.
"The law will remain in place. Secondly, if changes are needed, changes will be made if special institutes give their recommendations. According to the law, citizens affected by the Semipalatinsk landfill will retire at the age of 45," said the head.
