Russian President's Special Envoy for Sustainable Development Anatoly Chubais has resigned voluntarily. This was reported by Bloomberg, according to the national portal Adyrna.

Several media outlets reported that he had left Russia.

Citing two sources, Bloomberg quoted Chubais as saying that he had resigned voluntarily, saying he did not agree with Russian President Vladimir Putin's declaration of war on Ukraine.

"Yes, Chubais resigned voluntarily. Leaving or not leaving is a personal matter," Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Bloomberg called Chubais, 66, one of the few economic reformers of the 1990s who had close ties to Western officials in Putin's government. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador for Sustainable Development, Chubais held senior positions in major state-owned companies.

Earlier, journalist and TV presenter Vladimir Posner recalled an interview with Anatoly Chubais on Channel One. The journalist says he remembers Chubais's unusual behavior when asked about the Russians' hatred of him.

"This is a matter of great concern to him. When I asked this question, I remembered that his face, tone of voice and appearance were disturbed," said the TV presenter.
