Foreign media reported that the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev would discuss the situation surrounding the Kazakh banker Mukhtar Ablyazov living in France with French President Emmanuel Macron. Roman Vasilenko, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed his opinion on this issue.
"This issue belongs to the exclusive competence of law enforcement agencies of many countries. This issue (return of Ablyazov from France - author) is not discussed at the political level. The question belongs to the jurisdiction of the courts or the competent authorities. Not only Kazakhstan - Europe and USA. As you know, Mr. Ablyazov was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the crime he committed in Kazakhstan," the deputy minister said after the general session of the Majilis.
According to him, the High Court of London also sentenced the Kazakh banker for stealing 4 billion dollars from BTA Bank.
"At present, other court processes related to him are taking place in the USA, Great Britain and France. From the side of Kazakhstan, participants in the court process are BTA, Almaty administration and the Ministry of Justice. Therefore, this is a legal issue. It is a form of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the countries where the case against Mr. Ablyazov is being investigated. Therefore, this issue is not discussed at the political level," said Roman Vasilenko.
It should be noted that on November 29, the Head of State Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev paid an official visit to France.
