Russian President Vladimir Putin has been urged to apologize and pay compensation for the deaths of Kazakh citizens in the plane crash, reports the national portal “Adyrna,” citing KazTAG.

“Dear Mr. Vladimir Putin! Supporting the statement of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, we believe that the Russian side should compensate all victims, including citizens of Kazakhstan,” civil activist Murat Telibekov stated in an appeal to Putin on behalf of Kazakh society.

The appeal calls for Russia to implement this without waiting for the investigation results and to apologize to the residents of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and its own citizens.

“Despite the existing risks, this will not harm the country’s reputation. On the contrary, bravely admitting guilt is a step toward atonement. Spreading unreasonable theories about birds hitting the engine or the explosion of an oxygen cylinder in the cabin damages the credibility of the Russian authorities,” the appeal stated.

As a reminder, on December 25, an Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane flying from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau Airport, killing 38 people. There were 67 people on board, including five crew members. Among the passengers were six Kazakhstan citizens, 42 Azerbaijanis, three Kyrgyz, and 16 Russians. Twenty-nine people were injured and hospitalized, including two children. There were no Kazakh survivors among those who survived the crash.
