According to the Adyrna national portal, citing Fergana, singers in Uzbekistan are now required to notify audiences in advance if they use a backing track during concerts.

This regulation comes into effect following a new law signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on March 11. Amendments have been made to the laws on “Consumer Rights Protection,” “Advertising,” and “Cultural Services and Cultural Organizations.”

From now on, artists must indicate in their promotional materials whether they will perform live or use a full or partial backing track during their concerts. Additionally, concert programs must include not only the name of the performer but also the names of the songwriters.

“This will help audiences make informed choices. It will be clear and transparent who is singing, who composed the music, whether the performance is live, and whether a backing track is used,” explained Senate representatives.

Furthermore, the head of the state-run Uzbekkoncert organization, which oversees licensing and regulation of artists in the country, has been replaced. Odiljon Abdukahhorov has been appointed to the position. He previously led the organization from 2017 to 2020.

During his previous tenure, he was known for criticizing singers’ stage outfits, beards, and songs praising the president, frequently calling artists to order.

The new law takes effect immediately upon its official publication.
