The British government plans to transfer the 2.3 billion pounds received from the sale of the football club "Chelsea" by the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich to a fund to help victims of the war in Ukraine. This was announced by The Telegraph with reference to government sources, the national portal "Adyrna" reported.

According to the publication, since Abramovich is under EU sanctions, the authorities are waiting for EU approval. The final resolution of the problem may take several weeks.

The media note that the idea of creating a fund, which is planned to send money, belongs to Abramovich himself. At the beginning of March last year, the billionaire faced sanctions related to the war in Ukraine.

The deal to sell Chelsea was announced early last year and completed at the end of May. The club was sold to a consortium led by American investor Todd Boley for £4.25bn. Proceeds from the sale are deposited in a special bank account and blocked there.
