The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has strongly rejected the statement made by Mehdi Sobhani, the Iranian Ambassador to Armenia, claiming that Azerbaijani territory is being used against Iran, reports “Adyrna” national portal.

This was stated by the ministry’s spokesperson, Aykhan Hajizade. According to him, the ambassador’s accusations that “Israeli drones attacked Iran from Azerbaijani territory” undermine the relationship based on mutual respect between the two countries.

“Recently, during a phone conversation between the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Iran, as well as between the Foreign Ministers, these issues were clarified at the appropriate level. However, the ambassador’s statement is provocative in nature,” said Hajizade.

Baku officially emphasized that allegations regarding Azerbaijani territory or airspace being used by a third country for military purposes against Iran are unsubstantiated and baseless.

The foreign ministry representative also stated that Azerbaijan expects Iran to prevent such actions that do not align with the spirit of friendly relations between the two nations and to take appropriate measures regarding the ambassador, who regularly expresses pro-Armenian views.
