On January 27, a 22-year-old Kazakh man was arrested in Istanbul on suspicion of involvement in the activities of an international terrorist organization. This was announced by the National Security Committee, "Adyrna" national portal reported.
The suspect was deported to Almaty.
According to information, a native of Turkestan region went to Syria in 2020. There, the young man joined one of the armed groups.
The NSC worked together with its Turkish colleagues to bring the Kazakh to his homeland. The General Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs also supported.
"A case was initiated against the suspect under Article 257 of the Criminal Code ("Establishing a terrorist group, leading it and participating in its activities"). He was arrested with a court order. Necessary investigative measures are being carried out," the message reads.
According to Article 201, Part 1 of the Criminal Procedure Code, no other information will be published.
