In Tashkent, doctors performed a complex operation to separate Siamese twins, reports the national portal Adyrna, citing Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
The information was released by the press service of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health.

The Siamese twins were born at 33–34 weeks of pregnancy. Just nine hours after birth, doctors successfully completed a five-hour-long surgical operation.

According to media reports, the operation was carried out by a team of highly qualified specialists under the leadership of Doctor of Medical Sciences and Professor Bakhtiyor Ergashev, head of the Neonatal Surgery Center at the Republican Perinatal Center.

The surgery took place at the Tashkent regional branch of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Maternal and Child Health in Chirchik city.

Uzbekistan’s Minister of Health, Asilbek Khudayarov, noted that this event demonstrates the country’s medical system reaching a new level of development.

“The successful regional-level separation of Siamese twins shows that the capabilities of Uzbek medicine are expanding,” said the minister.

The team of doctors who took part in the operation was awarded the “Excellence in Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan” badge.
