Former UFC champion Conor McGregor has announced his intention to run in Ireland’s 2025 presidential election, Adyrna national portal reports.
McGregor’s decision is linked to debates over the country’s immigration policy. According to him, Ireland is obligated to fulfill all commitments under the European Union’s Migration Pact by June 12, 2026. By that deadline, both houses of parliament must pass the necessary legislation, which must then be signed by the president. Meanwhile, the presidential election must take place by November 11, 2025.
“Who else can stand against the government besides me? Any candidate they put forward won’t be able to withstand the pressure of power. But I can! If I become president, I would put this legislation to a referendum. I am completely against this pact. But this decision is not up to me or the government alone. If I become president, this will be Ireland’s future. Every citizen has the right to voice their opinion and determine their own future!” McGregor wrote on his Instagram page.
It is worth noting that Conor McGregor is known for his hardline stance on Ireland’s immigration policy. He has repeatedly stated that illegal migration poses a threat to the country. Recently, he met with former U.S. President Donald Trump to exchange views on this issue.
