U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order banning transgender female athletes from competing in women’s sports competitions. He announced this at the White House in front of female athletes, reports Adyrna national portal.
“From now on, women’s sports are for women only,” Trump declared during the signing ceremony. He also stated that the U.S. would refuse to issue visas to transgender athletes.
The executive order primarily applies to school, university, and amateur competitions. However, Trump also announced that he would demand the International Olympic Committee review its rules regarding transgender athletes before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The order states, “Many educational institutions and sports organizations have allowed men to compete in women’s sports. This is an insult, an injustice, and a threat to women, depriving them of equal opportunities.”
Additionally, during his inauguration, Trump declared that U.S. government policy would recognize only two genders—male and female—and signed an order accordingly.
According to CNN, before signing the order, Trump claimed that two athletes who won gold medals in women’s boxing at last year’s Paris Olympics were transgender. However, this claim is false. Algerian boxer Imane Khelif and Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-Ting have never changed their gender and have always competed as women.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach confirmed that these two athletes have always been recognized as women and that there has never been any doubt about their gender identity.
