Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev presented the country’s key economic goals for 2025 during a session of the newly elected Oliy Majlis, according to the “Adyrna” national portal.
The President outlined targets such as maintaining economic growth at 6-7%, keeping inflation at 5-6%, limiting the budget deficit to under 3%, and lifting 1 million people out of poverty. Plans also include implementing over 300 large investment projects, enhancing food security by increasing agricultural production by 1.3 times, and raising the private sector’s share in the economy to 85%. To achieve this, the government plans widespread privatization of state assets.
Specifically, 2,000 state-owned enterprises will be privatized, over 5,000 real estate properties will be sold, and shares of 16 major enterprises will be offered through IPOs. In addition, public-private partnership projects worth $30 billion will be implemented.
The President emphasized the need for close cooperation between the government and parliament to achieve these goals. He also highlighted the importance of international partnerships, strengthening the country’s defense capabilities, and focusing on youth development.
Mirziyoyev reviewed the economic achievements of the past five years, noting that Uzbekistan’s economy has doubled in size, exceeding $100 billion, with per capita income reaching $3,000. Exports have also doubled to $25 billion, foreign currency reserves have surpassed $40 billion, and foreign investment has increased sixfold, creating 1.5 million jobs. Ten major solar and wind power plants were launched, tripling the share of renewable energy. Access to preschool education rose to 74%, and higher education enrollment reached 39%. Additionally, “Inson” (Human) centers providing over 100 social services were opened nationwide.
As part of the “Uzbekistan-2030” strategy, the country aims to increase GDP to $160 billion. This year, GDP is projected to reach $110 billion.
During the parliamentary session, deputies also reappointed Abdulla Aripov as Prime Minister. Furthermore, 2025 was declared the “Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy” in Uzbekistan.
