Today, September 17, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered a speech at the opening of the 8th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, reports “Adyrna.”

The Head of State expressed his respect to the world’s most influential spiritual leaders and other participants gathered in Astana, and thanked them for supporting the work of the Congress.

“At present, challenges across the globe are increasing, and the international situation is escalating. As a result, various conflicts are multiplying. This turbulent period is not easy for anyone. Unfortunately, the nature and essence of war are becoming more pronounced. Nevertheless, we must learn the right lessons from the past and strive for constructive and open dialogue. There is no alternative to consensus. In this regard, today’s Congress is of exceptional importance. Religious leaders can be called Ambassadors of Peace who uphold humanistic values. You are joining forces for a common cause and expressing your commitment to mobilizing the global community for noble goals. I sincerely thank you all,” – he said.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also noted that cultural contradictions in the world are deepening, trade and sanction confrontations are not subsiding, and instead of general disarmament, an arms race has begun.

“In various regions of the world, hybrid wars are unfolding with no clear front lines. However, they are causing countless human casualties and triggering endless flows of refugees. They are inflicting enormous damage on the global economy. The threat of nuclear conflict is deeply concerning. Experts increasingly warn that the likelihood of such a decisive moment, where evil and kindness come into direct confrontation, has sharply increased over the past decade. Unfortunately, instead of putting forward constructive proposals and demonstrating political restraint, hostility is intensifying worldwide, geopolitical divides are widening, and social tensions are growing worse. In my opinion, in such a critical period, constructive diplomacy must come to the forefront as the primary tool to call for dialogue, urge an end to alienation, and build mutual trust on the international stage,” – the President emphasized.
