This year marks the 32nd anniversary of the Nevada-Semipalatinsk International Movement Against Nuclear Explosion. In this regard, the Central Library named after Abay in Semey hosted an international conference "Problems and prospects for the implementation of the law on the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site." It was attended by celebrities and representatives of the movement, poets, writers and veterans from all regions of the country and online neighboring countries. Aktobe residents also took part in the event, the correspondent of the national portal "Adyrna" reported.

The event was opened online by Olzhas Suleimenov, a public figure and leader of the Nevada-Semipalatinsk movement. He said that it was a heroic deed at that time.

It should be noted that on October 19, 1989, when TASS reported another underground explosion at the Semipalatinsk test site with a capacity of 150 kilotons, Olzhas Suleimenov made great efforts to attract the public and parliamentary diplomacy to fulfill this noble mission. The movement organized protests in Almaty, Semey, Saran, Karaul, and Moscow. At the rallies in Karaganda and Pavlodar, an appeal was made to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, demanding the urgent introduction of the issue of closing the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site.

Speaking at the conference, Guldana Nurpeisova, a member of the international anti-nuclear movement "Nevada-Semipalatinsk", told about the work being done in different regions of the country and set an example of the initiatives of Aktobe and Atyrau regions. He also said that a number of events dedicated to the 32nd anniversary of the international movement will be held this fall.

At the meeting, the residents of Semipalatinsk touched upon the issue of benefits provided by the state and asked to solve the problems in this area in the future in accordance with the law.

At the end of the conference, the city administration thanked the participants and presented them with books.

- Kazakhstan is the first country to voluntarily renounce nuclear weapons. It is also a state that has proved to the world that it is possible to unite the good intentions of ordinary people, authorities and politicians. Kazakhstan was the first to present its initiative in the highest tribunes. It was a big step. At today's event, we realized that we need to express our views on this and implement initiatives that will be remembered by future generations, - said a young activist from Aktobe Azamat Usimbekov.
