A memorandum was signed as part of the agreement on mineral resources between Ukraine and the United States, Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko announced, according to the national portal “Adyrna.”
“Today, we took one step closer to an economic partnership agreement with the United States. Ukraine and the United States have signed a memorandum. This is evidence of the constructive joint work of our teams and our mutual desire to reach an agreement that will benefit both nations,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
According to Yulia Svyrydenko, Ukraine is planning to create an Investment Fund aimed at reconstruction efforts.
“This agreement will enable the attraction of major investments, modernization of infrastructure, and the strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and the United States. That’s why work on drafting the document is still ongoing,” she stated.
She added that finalizing the text of the agreement and signing it formally is still ahead. After that, the document must be ratified by the parliaments of both countries.
The agreement on mineral resources between the United States and Ukraine is set to be signed exactly one week later, on April 24 — this was announced on Thursday by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to the BBC.
As a reminder, on March 24, President Trump stated that the U.S. administration and the Ukrainian government were close to finalizing a draft agreement on rare earth elements and that it would be signed soon. Kyiv, in turn, expressed its readiness to sign the agreement without the U.S. demand for control over Ukrainian nuclear power plants. On April 12, it was also reported that Ukraine and the United States held negotiations in Washington regarding the minerals agreement.
