Today, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, signed a decree granting amnesty to 41 convicted individuals, reports the “Adyrna” national portal, citing 24.kg.
This was announced by the State Service for the Execution of Sentences of Kyrgyzstan.
Among those granted amnesty are civil activists, including poet and journalist Azamat Ishenbekov. He was arrested in 2024 in connection with the Temirov Live and “Ayt Ayt Dese” projects. He was convicted of inciting mass unrest and sentenced to five years in prison.
Additionally, blogger Zarina Torokulova was also granted amnesty. In 2023, she was arrested for sharing a video of writer Olzhobai Shakir on social media and sentenced to five years in prison.
In an interview with Kaktus.media, Torokulova’s daughter, Ayman, stated that her mother requested amnesty after the Supreme Court of Bishkek upheld the verdict. Ishenbekov also submitted an amnesty request, according to his lawyer, Sapar Akun.
Torokulova and Ishenbekov are expected to be released on April 9.
