After spending four days in space, the Crew Dragon capsule carrying members of the international Fram2 research mission successfully landed off the coast of California on April 4, according to the national portal “Adyrna.”
This commercial mission was carried out by SpaceX.
Following the landing, rescue teams lifted the capsule onto a special ship at sea and opened it. The astronauts – Eric Phillips (Australia), Rabea Rogge (Germany), Jannike Mikkelsen (Norway), and Chun Wang (China-Malta) – exited onto the deck on their own.
Fram2 is a privately funded international scientific mission. The project was named in honor of the famous 19th-century Norwegian research vessel “Fram.” The mission was organized by billionaire Chun Wang, who made his fortune in cryptocurrency and served as the crew leader.
During their journey, the astronauts conducted over 20 scientific experiments. These included the first-ever X-ray of the human body in space, growing mushrooms, and flying over the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Norwegian director Jannike Mikkelsen also shared a video on social media demonstrating how she dries her hair in zero gravity.
This mission marked the first time a woman from Germany has flown to space.
29-year-old Rabea Rogge is an electrical engineer and expert in Arctic robotics. She became the first German woman to fly into space. Until now, only 12 men from Germany had been to space. The last one was Sigmund Jähn, who flew aboard the Soviet “Soyuz” spacecraft in 1978.
