The White House may revoke refugee status for hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians living in the U.S., Reuters reported, citing official and three other sources, as relayed by the Adyrna national portal.
“The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump plans to terminate the temporary legal status of approximately 240,000 Ukrainians who fled the conflict,” the publication states.
This decision could be made as early as April, potentially leading to the deportation of individuals in this category.
The move is part of Trump’s strategy to halt humanitarian immigration programs introduced under Joe Biden.
“Preparations for this measure began even before the recent public dispute with Volodymyr Zelensky,” sources claim.
According to reports, more than 1.8 million refugees in total could lose their legal status. Besides Ukrainians, this includes:
• 530,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela,
• 70,000 Afghans who fled after the Taliban took power,
• 1 million people who had legally migrated using the CBP One app, which the Trump administration shut down in late January,
• Thousands more who participated in family reunification programs.
