President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed the law “On the Special Status of the City of Turkistan.” This was reported by the press service of Akorda on March 3, Adyrna reports.
The law establishes Turkistan’s special status as the country’s spiritual, historical, cultural, and tourist center, as well as an architectural heritage site.
“The document aims to create an effective system for managing, preserving, and ensuring the integrity of the city’s historical and cultural monuments and sites; planning and overseeing archaeological and scientific restoration work on the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi and its protected area; preserving, developing, and reviving historical and cultural heritage while promoting national handicrafts; and providing scientific support for decisions regarding the protection and use of historical and cultural sites,” the statement reads.
To ensure effective city management, additional powers have been granted to the Turkistan city administration and maslikhat. This will accelerate decision-making processes, enhance oversight of historical and cultural heritage preservation, and introduce a unified urban planning code.
Meanwhile, state supervision will focus on supporting artisans, regulating transit transport, and preserving the city’s historical identity.
