Berik Uali has been appointed as the new governor of the Abai region. This was reported by Akorda’s press service on February 17, according to Adyrna correspondent.
Previously, he served as the president’s advisor and press secretary.
Berik Uali was born in 1977 in the Semey region. He graduated from the T. Zhurgenov Kazakh State Institute of Theatre and Cinema with a degree in Film Studies, earned a master’s degree in Journalism from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and also studied Law at the Kazakh Innovative Humanitarian and Law University.
He began his career in 1997 as a reporter for the Almaty News program on TAN TV. From 1998 to 1999, he worked as a producer-editor for the News program on NTK TV. Between 2000 and 2007, he held various roles at 31 Kanal, including chief editor of Informburo, author and host of Erkin Soz, and chief editor and host of the political talk show Doda. From 2007 to 2012, he worked at Khabar Agency as a news reporter and host of the analytical program Betpe-Bet.
It is worth noting that in 2022, reports surfaced about Berik Uali’s appointment as the governor of East Kazakhstan. However, Akorda later denied this information.
On February 15, 2025, social media circulated information suggesting that Berik Uali, then a presidential advisor and press secretary, was being considered for the vacant governor position in the Abai region.
