The zoo in Almaty will be relocated to another city in Kazakhstan, according to a statement from the Almaty Region administration, reports the national portal Adyrna.
During a project meeting in Alatau City, it was stated that the zoo’s relocation to Alatau is part of a program aimed at developing the city’s tourism infrastructure.
Additionally, 11 projects are currently being developed in Alatau, covering sectors such as tourism, logistics, industry, education, and business.
To enhance Alatau’s investment appeal and strengthen its workforce potential, an increase in the mortgage lending limit for professionals working in the city has been proposed. Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev instructed officials to explore expanding this program, considering public needs and the pace of housing construction.
The Almaty Zoo, which was established in 1937, originally covered only 7 hectares. It was expanded in the 1960s, and today, Kazakhstan’s oldest zoo spans an area of 21,145 hectares.
For reference, in 2024, Alatau City was officially designated as a city of regional significance by presidential decree. The government approved a master plan for the city and made adjustments to the borders of Ile and Talgar districts, as well as the city of Konaev. The new city is expected to become a global investment hub.
