On a flight from Astana to Moscow, an 85-year-old passenger’s condition suddenly worsened, requiring urgent medical assistance, reports the national portal “Adyrna,” citing the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan.
The ministry reported this incident on January 29.
On January 24, a passenger named Viktor Karpin, who was traveling with his grandson, began to feel unwell and started losing consciousness. Flight attendants noticed the situation and urgently called for a doctor. At that moment, Karlygyash Bakirova, an otoneurologist from the BSM UDP RK in Astana, who was on board, stepped in to provide assistance.
Upon examination, the passenger’s blood pressure was found to have dropped to 50/30 mmHg, and his pulse was weak. The doctor immediately performed emergency resuscitation measures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), temporarily stabilizing the passenger’s condition. She also requested an urgent landing at the nearest airport. Considering the severity of the situation, the crew decided to land at Ufa Airport.
Upon landing, medical personnel met Viktor Alekseyevich and transported him to the hospital, where his condition was later reported to be stable.
Notably, this was the second case this month where graduates of Astana Medical University saved a life on board a flight. Earlier, intern Dinmukhamed Bekturganov performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a passenger during a Kyzylorda–Astana flight, saving their life.
