President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed amendments regarding education and the protection of children’s rights, according to the Akorda press service on December 30, reports Adyrna.
“The Head of State signed the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan ‘On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on State Awards, Education, and the Protection of Children’s Rights,’” the announcement states.
The law aims to improve Kazakhstan’s legislation in the areas of preschool, secondary, technical and vocational, post-secondary, and supplementary education, as well as in the protection of children’s rights. It also seeks to address legal gaps and contradictions.
One of the new provisions in the document introduces a new form of placing children into families. According to Deputy Minister of Education Edil Ospan, if a child is left without parents, they will first be placed with a foster family instead of an orphanage. To ensure quality care, no more than four children may be placed in a single family.
