Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on December 29 regarding the crash of a Boeing 737 aircraft in South Korea, reports the national portal Adyrna.
“According to preliminary information released by South Korean authorities, there were no Kazakh citizens on board the aircraft,” said the ministry’s official spokesperson, Aibek Smadiyarov.
It was previously reported that the plane was carrying 181 people. Two survivors were said to have been seated at the rear of the aircraft. South Korean local authorities have officially confirmed 62 fatalities.
The Boeing 737, operated by Jeju Air, was en route from Bangkok and crashed during landing at Muan Airport, located 288 kilometers southwest of Seoul. The crash occurred due to landing gear failure, causing the aircraft to veer off the runway, collide with a barrier, and catch fire.
