Former East Kazakhstan Region Akim Daniyal Akhmetov has stepped down as head of the Athletics Federation of Kazakhstan, reports the Adyrna national portal.
The decision was made during the conference of the Athletics Federation of Kazakhstan, where it was also announced that Olympic champion Olga Rypakova would take over the position.
The meeting was attended by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Yerbol Myrzabosynov, the federation’s president, regional federation heads, athletes, and other federation representatives.
During the meeting, Daniyal Akhmetov announced his early resignation and proposed the candidacy of renowned athlete Olga Rypakova for the role of federation president. The proposal was unanimously supported by the participants, including regional federation heads.
“Athletics is one of the most popular sports in our country. We must take it to a new level and increase its recognition on the international stage. Today’s meeting marked significant changes in the federation’s leadership. Daniyal Akhmetov, who led the federation for several years, has stepped down. Now, Olympic champion Olga Rypakova will serve as the federation’s president. We are confident that she will elevate our athletics to new heights,” said Yerbol Myrzabosynov.
