On November 10, information spread on social media claiming that former Minister of National Economy, Kuandyk Bishimbayev, had escaped from prison. The Committee for Criminal-Executive System of the Ministry of Internal Affairs denied this information, reports “Adyrna.”
“There is false information circulating about convicted K. Bishimbayev escaping. This information is not true. The convict is serving his sentence in a strict regime facility. A criminal case has been opened regarding the spread of false information, and those responsible will be held accountable,” said committee representatives.
Ex-Minister Kuandyk Bishimbayev was convicted on May 13 after a trial lasting several months, on two charges. The charges against him included aggravated murder (punishable by 15 to 20 years or life imprisonment) and torture (punishable by 4 to 7 years of imprisonment or restriction of liberty). He was sentenced to 24 years in prison. Bakytzhan Bayzhanov, who was involved in the crime, was found guilty under Article 432 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 4 years in prison.
It is worth recalling that on November 9, 2023, a tragic incident occurred at one of the restaurants in Astana, where Kuandyk Bishimbayev’s wife, Saltanat Nukenova, passed away. Following that event, Bishimbayev was arrested, and later his relative, Bakytzhan Bayzhanov, was also detained.
