Professor Pernebék Shegebaev, a renowned Kazakh musicologist, educator, and Doctor of Arts, has passed away. Shegebaev was known for his significant contributions to the field of music, his dedication to educating students, and his work on preserving Kazakh musical heritage.
Shegebaev, an associate professor at M. H. Dulati Taraz Regional University, was a student of prominent music researcher Assiya Mukhametova. He graduated from the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory in Almaty and later completed his postgraduate studies at the N. Cherkasov Theater, Music, and Cinematography Institute in Leningrad. He devoted 43 years to the field of education.
Shegebaev was well-known for his in-depth studies, monographs, and educational materials on Kazakh instrumental music and dombra kui (traditional folk compositions for the dombra). His works include the monograph “Kazakh Dombra Music: Theory, History, and Methodology,” textbooks on Kazakh music literature in both Kazakh and Russian, and the study “Dombra Kui of Western Kazakhstan: Traditional Form and Individual Style.” Over 70 of his academic articles were published in Kazakh and international scientific journals. His creative legacy was dedicated to researching and passing on Kazakh musical culture.
As a teacher, Shegebaev made a substantial impact on the development of Kazakh art and culture, leaving behind many students.
