President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh awarded the highest state honor of Mongolia, the “Genghis Khan” Order, to Ban Ki-moon, the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, reports the national portal “Adyrna,” citing Montsame news agency.

This award was presented in celebration of the 862nd anniversary of Great Genghis Khan’s birth, which is observed as Mongolia’s National Pride Day.

At the award ceremony, the president noted that the “Genghis Khan” Order is awarded to both domestic and foreign statesmen, public figures, and citizens who have made significant contributions to strengthening unity and prosperity, supporting global peace and security, advancing Mongolia’s relations and cooperation with other countries, promoting Mongolia on the international stage, and contributing to the social, economic, and spiritual development of the country.

“The eighth UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, played a leading role in the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement by the world’s nations. Through this, he contributed to achieving common agreements among states and promoting human rights, freedom, justice, and equality. His contributions to fostering cooperation between Mongolia and the United Nations and promoting environmental protection and ‘green’ development policy deserve special respect. Therefore, Mongolia proudly honors Ban Ki-moon with the ‘Genghis Khan’ Order, ensuring that his achievements are remembered forever,” said President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh.

Additionally, the president warmly congratulated the people of Mongolia on the 862nd anniversary of Great Genghis Khan’s birth.

“Great Genghis Khan is the symbol of Mongolia’s independence and existence. He is a symbol of our unity and values, a golden thread connecting our past, present, and future generations, and a source of spiritual strength and national identity. The achievements, wisdom, and legacy of the Great Khan hold a special place in the development and prosperity of the world. Genghis Khan’s legacy has made an invaluable contribution to the formation of the modern world. According to current scholars and historians, ‘Pax Mongolica’ encompassed progressive ideals that laid the foundation for joint efforts of countries to ensure peace and sustainable development for humanity,” President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh emphasized.
