A modern Kazakh yurt project from Almaty has won in the “Architectural Design” category at the international Design Educates Awards 2025, reports Adyrna.

The competition featured projects from all over the world. According to the organizers, the entries were valued not only for their aesthetic qualities but also for their ability to convey knowledge and culture. The modern interpretation of the traditional Kazakh yurt was praised as a unique creation that harmoniously blends national heritage with contemporary architectural ideas.

“The interior of the yurt covers an area of 25 square meters. It includes a bedroom, workspaces, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Thanks to foldable furniture, the internal space can be used to its full potential,” states the Design Educates Awards 2025 website.

The project was created using environmentally friendly materials. For example, the wall sections include glued thin boards with a layer of thermal insulation made from basalt fiber.
