Pope Francis has confirmed plans to visit Kazakhstan by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the national portal Adyrna reports citing the press service of Akorda.
"Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held talks with Pope Francis via video conference. During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Vatican, as well as the promotion of interfaith harmony and interreligious dialogue, "the statement reads.
Special attention was paid to the agenda of the VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which will be held in September this year in the capital of Kazakhstan. Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev noted that this event is important for Kazakhstan.
The Head of State briefed the interlocutor on the Kazakh model of interfaith harmony and unity, as well as on the implementation of large-scale political and economic reforms.
The Pope thanked the President for the opportunity to meet and confirmed his official visit to Kazakhstan, as well as his participation in the VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. He noted that he has high hopes for the upcoming visit and participation in the forum.
"I look forward to this important event in terms of promoting inter-religious dialogue, unity and rapprochement of states, which is very important today," said Francis.
He stressed the importance of achieving unity and harmony in the world in the current complex geopolitical situation.
"We see how diverse and cohesive your country is," he said. This is the basis of stability. We are glad that Kazakhstan understands this. You can fully count on my support, and I appreciate your efforts, "said the Pope.
