On June 5, Uzbekistan secured its first-ever qualification for the FIFA World Cup after a decisive match against the United Arab Emirates ended in a 0:0 draw, Adyrna reports. The Uzbek national team competed in Group A of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. After 9 matches, the team collected 18 points, finishing second in the group behind only Iran. The decisive game against the UAE ended goalless, with Uzbekistan demonstrating solid defensive performance to secure a crucial point. This result granted them direct qualification to the next stage of the World Cup. This achievement marks a significant milestone for football development in Central Asia. Until now, the region had primarily seen dominant teams like Iran, Japan, and South Korea represent Asia on the world stage — now, Uzbekistan joins their ranks. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. For the first time, the Uzbekistan national team will compete on the global stage and have the opportunity to showcase its potential.
