During the Government Hour in the Senate, Minister of National Economy Ruslan Dalenov told that by 2050 the share of small and medium-sized businesses in GDP would be expected to reach 50%, the national portal "Adyrna" reports with reference to Baq.kz.

There is a strong link between the share of SMEs in GDP and the well-being of the population. The higher it is, the higher the living standards and quality of life of the population. Being an economic driver, SMEs make a significant contribution to the development of the country. In OECD countries, the share of SMEs in the economy is 45-65%. In 2019, the share of SMEs in GDP in the country amounted to 31.7%.  4 years ago it was 24.9%. Now it is planned to increase it to 35% by 2025 and to 50% by 2050. This corresponds to the level of developed countries, - said Ruslan Dalenov.

He noted that the number of people employed in business was growing every year and they're about 3.5 million people.

Nur-Sultan and Almaty occupy a leading position in the structure of Kazakhstan's small and medium business. They account for one third of the total GRP, as well as one third of the total number of SMEs. In Kazakhstan, the regional SME is the driver of employment. Last year, the number of people employed in this sector increased by 8% compared to 2015, - said the Minister.
