The first “Central Asia – European Union” summit will take place on April 3-4 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev presiding over the event, Adyrna national portal reports.
The summit will be attended by European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, as well as Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the leaders of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.
Key topics of discussion will include cooperation in transport and logistics, strategic raw materials, and clean energy sources between Central Asia and the European Union.
“We are living in a time of tension. In this context, the only solution for the EU is to build partnerships based on peace and mutual prosperity,” said European Council President António Costa.
It is worth noting that last September, the President of Uzbekistan proposed hosting the “Central Asia – EU” summit in his country. Ahead of the summit, the Central Asia International Institute in Uzbekistan hosted a forum for political think tanks from Europe and Central Asia.
