Recently, a draft law on artificial intelligence (AI) has sparked debate on social media, with differing opinions on its opportunities and risks. In response, well-known public activist Meirzhan Auelkhanuly shared his views, emphasizing the importance of utilizing AI effectively rather than restricting it, Adyrna national portal reports.
According to him, if Kazakhstan misses the opportunity to integrate AI, it risks falling behind in technological development. He criticized some lawmakers who argued that “AI could surpass us by understanding Kazakhstan’s issues better than we do.”
“AI is not an enemy; it is a powerful tool for progress and development that is already recognized worldwide. Developed countries are actively using it in medicine, education, industry, and even government administration. For Kazakhstan, the key issue is not limiting AI but determining how to use it efficiently and safely,” he wrote.
Auelkhanuly stressed the need for AI research centers, professional training programs, and support for startups and entrepreneurs in Kazakhstan. He believes that legally banning or restricting AI would be a mistake, as hindering technological progress could weaken the country’s future competitiveness.
Currently, countries like the US, China, Japan, and Singapore consider AI an integral part of their national strategies, investing heavily in this field. Kazakhstan must also take decisive steps in this direction.
A draft law on AI is now being developed in Kazakhstan, and Meirzhan Auelkhanuly has joined the working group, expressing his willingness to contribute proposals on the matter.
“Instead of fearing AI, we should understand it deeply and integrate it into daily life. If we do so, Kazakhstan will find its place in the new technological era,” he concluded.
