France is planning to hold a second summit to discuss the war in Ukraine and security issues in Europe. According to Reuters, the meeting may take place on February 19, reports the “Adyrna” national portal.

The new summit will invite leaders from European countries that did not participate in the previous meeting, as well as Canada, one of NATO’s European allies.

Sources indicate that representatives from Norway, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Finland, Romania, Sweden, and Belgium may attend. The meeting will be held in a hybrid format, meaning some leaders will join via video conference.

Previously, on February 17, French President Emmanuel Macron initiated the first emergency summit in Paris. It was attended by the leaders of the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Denmark, as well as representatives from NATO and the EU.

No official statement was made following the meeting.

The summit focused on security guarantees for Ukraine, European defense spending, and U.S. efforts to end the war.

According to EU representatives, some countries were dissatisfied with the fact that this gathering was not a full-scale EU summit, but rather a meeting of selected leaders.
