A new railway line connecting Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan is under construction, according to a statement from the press service of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, as reported by the “Adyrna” national portal, referencing Kazinform.
According to the information, the new railway line is expected to be commissioned in 2027.
The press service of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy stated that the new railway line will reduce the load on the “Saryagash” station and increase export volumes to Uzbekistan.
To achieve this goal, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy is implementing an investment project worth 286 billion tenge. The new Darbaza-Maktaaral line will link two remote districts of the Turkestan region, specifically Maktaaral and Zhetysai, with other regions of Kazakhstan. Currently, about 100 kilometers of track has been laid out of the 203 kilometers of the line.
The project involves 46 pieces of machinery and more than 70 people. According to the company, 3,400 temporary jobs will be created during the construction phase. Once the line is operational in 2027, more than 500 residents will be employed permanently.
