In an interview with the “Ana Tili” newspaper, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev commented on the plane crash in Aktau, as reported by the “Adyrna” national portal.

The President stated that sending the black box of the plane that crashed in Aktau to Brazil for data analysis was the only correct decision to ensure the neutrality of the investigation.

“At the end of December, a plane from an Azerbaijani airline crashed in Aktau city. 38 people died, including 6 of our citizens. Many others were seriously injured. In such moments, every second is precious. Rescuers, doctors, and law enforcement officers acted promptly and in coordination, demonstrating high professional standards and civic responsibility. Workers from the nearby Mangystau Regional Electric Grid company immediately came to help. Local residents also assisted in rescuing the victims. Thanks to the selflessness of our citizens, we managed to save as many lives as possible. I sincerely express my gratitude to everyone involved in the rescue efforts. The compassion and solidarity of the Kazakh people were clearly demonstrated when citizens rushed to donate blood. A Government commission has been set up to investigate the cause of the plane crash. In addition, 17 international experts were invited, including specialists from the International Civil Aviation Organization and the Interstate Aviation Committee. The Government commission decided to send the device containing all the data to Brazil, the country that manufactured the aircraft. I am confident that this step is the only correct decision to ensure the objective and neutral conduct of the investigation,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The President’s extensive interview with the “Egemen Kazakhstan” newspaper, published on January 3, 2024, was also referenced. In that interview, he addressed questions related to both domestic and foreign policy, the country’s socio-economic development, the January events of 2022, domestic violence, the construction of nuclear power plants, and other relevant topics.
