An avalanche occurred on a highway in the East Kazakhstan region, according to a report from the East Kazakhstan Emergency Department’s press service, as reported by the Adyrna national portal.

According to the information, the avalanche occurred today in the Altai district.

“An avalanche spontaneously occurred at the 62nd kilometer of the ‘Ust-Kamenogorsk — Altai — Ulken Naryn — Katon-Karagai — Rakhman Springs’ highway, which is of national significance. This section of the road was preemptively closed for safety reasons. The total volume of snow that fell is 1,300 cubic meters,” the report states.

The avalanche was triggered by heavy snowfall and strong winds. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

“The snow completely blocked the road. Four vehicles from ‘KazService’ LLP were mobilized to clear the road,” the statement said.

Rescuers warned that the avalanche risk remains high and advised local residents to avoid mountainous areas.
