South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has apologized to the public for declaring martial law, which sparked widespread public discontent, reports the “Adyrna” national portal.

“I sincerely apologize to the people. I take full responsibility for the decision to declare martial law,” said the South Korean president.

On the evening of December 3, President Yoon Suk Yeol declared a state of emergency and martial law. In response, a former Kazakhstani ambassador shared a statement on Facebook regarding the situation.

“Just this morning at 10:00 a.m., President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea addressed the nation. It was brief, and here are the key points:
1. He apologized to the public twice, bowing his head.
2. He stated that he would not avoid the legal or other consequences of his decision.
3. He mentioned that he would fully collaborate with the ruling People Power Party in executing his duties. However, he did not provide detailed explanations about how the power would be exercised or by whom.
4. He assured that as long as he remains in office, martial law would not be declared again.
5. He concluded his speech quickly and left the room.

Later today, at around 5:00 p.m. (Korean time), the parliament is scheduled to discuss impeachment. From 2:00 p.m., supporters from both sides will hold rallies in Seoul. Today is a crucial day, but this matter is far from resolved.

There are further steps to be taken in accordance with the law. For instance, if the parliament decides on impeachment, the matter will be reviewed by the Constitutional Court. If impeachment does not pass today, the issue may be postponed, with the opposition working to gather more support for another attempt. The opposition holds a majority in parliament.

In general, the political situation in the country is unstable. Events are unfolding by the hour. However, there is no danger to Koreans or other residents, including our citizens. South Korea remains a peaceful country,” wrote Dulat Bakishev in his post.
