Donald Trump, who won the U.S. presidential election, met with current President Joe Biden at the White House, reports ‘Adyrna’ national portal, citing the BBC.

During the meeting, Biden expressed his intention to hand over power peacefully to the next president, while Trump stated that he hoped this process would be ‘as successful as possible.’

‘Honorable President-elect and former President Donald, I congratulate you! We want to ensure a peaceful transfer of power and are ready to provide all necessary conditions,’ Biden told Trump. ‘Today, we can discuss these matters. Welcome, and congratulations on your return!’

The two politicians shook hands:

‘Politics is a tough world, and life, in general, is often not easy. But today is a special day, and I highly appreciate it,’ Trump said.

During the campaign, Trump and Biden had sharply criticized each other. The last time they met was during the debate in June. After those debates, Biden withdrew from the race due to concerns about his age and ability to perform presidential duties.

A meeting between the President-elect and the outgoing President is an ancient tradition in American political life.
