According to the “Adyrna” national portal, Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General’s Office announced the capture of a citizen who fled the country after embezzling millions of tenge.
On November 9, with support from Kazakhstan’s embassy in Stockholm, the Prosecutor General’s Office successfully extradited the suspect from Sweden to face criminal charges of large-scale embezzlement. According to the investigation, the suspect allegedly embezzled approximately 57 million tenge while working at a shopping center in Shymkent between 2015 and 2020.
The individual fled and was subsequently placed on an international wanted list. In February of this year, the suspect was apprehended in Sweden. Following Kazakhstan’s extradition request, the suspect was transferred back and is currently held in a detention center in Astana.
The crime is punishable by 7 to 12 years in prison, along with asset confiscation and a potential ban on certain professional roles or activities for up to 10 years.
