Eighty-five years ago, the Zhambyl region, located in the south of our country, was established, reports the correspondent of “Adyrna.” This area, formerly known as Aulie-Ata, was created on October 14, 1934, by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, from districts that were separated from the South Kazakhstan and Almaty regions. This decision was made to address issues related to the rapid development of the region’s productive forces and to rejuvenate it socially and culturally.

The current administrative center of the region is the city of Taraz. It is rich in non-ferrous metals, barite, coal, stones for coating, paving, and technical purposes, as well as construction materials. Zhambyl has Kazakh and Russian drama theaters, a philharmonic, five archives, libraries, clubs, and cultural houses.
