At 20:00 (21:00 Astana time) in Uzbekistan, voting on the referendum on changes and additions to the Constitution ended, "Adyrna" wrote.

In the new version of the Constitution, the presidential term was extended from five to seven years. If the changes are approved, the current president Shavkat Mirziyoyev could remain in power until 2040.

The amendments offer the incumbent President Mirziyev the opportunity to be re-elected to the post of head of state twice more and expand the powers of the president. In the new version of the document, the obligation of the state to provide citizens with a minimum wage, housing and medical care, as well as access to the Internet will be clarified. Also, the death penalty is prohibited.

It should be noted that after the January incident, a referendum was held in our country. According to the changes in it, the possibility of one person to be president was limited to one time of 7 years.
